The Templar cipher is an encoding method which has been claimed to have been used by the Knights Templars (Wikipedia page [1]).

It is a variant of the Masonic "Pigpen cipher" (Wikipedia page [2]), based on variations of a Maltese Cross shape (instead of on a # grid shape).

See the English Wikipedia page [3] - there is slightly more material on the French Wikipedia page [4].
